Colorado Local Ballot Measures Propose Tax Changes

Pueblo and El Paso County-area ballot measures would authorize new taxes or lift tax limits to fund library revenue flexibility, zoo operations and improvements, fire and public-safety services, new fire stations, and school safety and building upgrades. The proposals include sales-tax increases for Pueblo’s zoo and fire department, a long-term property-tax increase for Elbert Fire Protection District, and up to $80 million in bonds for Cheyenne Mountain schools.

Sand Creek Fire Secures FEMA Grant, 31K Acres

Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved a Fire Management Assistance Grant to Montana to cover up to 75% of eligible firefighting costs for the Sand Creek Fire, which has grown to about 31,652 acres with 1% containment and evacuation orders in place. Separately, FEMA also approved federal assistance for Oregon’s Fielder Mountain Fire to help defray fighting costs through its Fire Management Assistance Grant program.

State Route 153 through Beaver Canyon is closed indefinitely after flash floods and debris flows destroyed multiple road sections, with the worst damage between mileposts 7.5 and 10.5 and about half of the roadway near milepost 14 washed into the river.
