UNESCO has inscribed Aalto Works, a 13-site collection across Finland designed by Alvar, Aino and Elissa Aalto, on the World Heritage List, highlighting their humanistic modernism and contribution to architecture and Finland’s welfare society. The designation, announced at the Busan session, emphasizes five Helsinki sites and is expected to boost tourism and awareness of Finland’s architectural heritage as part of its eight World Heritage sites.

UNESCO added China’s Jingdezhen Handicraft Porcelain Industry Sites to its World Heritage List during the 48th session in Busan, elevating China’s total to 61 sites. The inscription covers a multi-zone, pre-industrial production landscape—from clay mining and stone veins to kilns and river logistics—that illustrates the complete porcelain-making process and Jingdezhen’s historical global influence.

The bid underscores Olympus’s cultural, mythological, and environmental significance—including its status as Greece’s highest peak, its mythic role as the throne of Zeus, and protections from a national forest in 1938 to a biosphere reserve in 1981 and a national park in 2021.Jul 27, 2026
