Lawsuit Accuses Cesar Chavez of Raping Woman at UFW Compound
Five civil lawsuits filed in Kern County allege that Cesar Chavez raped women in the 1970s at UFW compounds such as La Paz, with plaintiffs accusing the Chavez Foundation and the UFW Foundation of covering up or enabling the abuse. The suits, prompted by a New York Times investigation, name Chavez’s affiliated organizations and seek damages for negligence and civil rights violations, noting that Chavez died in 1993.
