West Wildfires Trigger Evacuations, State of EmergencyEnvironment — Aug 8, 2026A fast-growing Bald Range wildfire west of Summerland has prompted evacuations for thousands of residents as the blaze expanded to about 5,000 hectares, with authorities urging those in affected areas to evacuate and stay away while emergency services respond. The district has also restricted irrigation to conserve water for firefighting and issued a boil-water advisory after the water treatment plant was bypassed to support firefighting efforts.
